I’ve had fun over the last year or so of writing this blog but it’s time to move on and open up a new chapter. Unfortunately I can’t take all my current readers along for opsec reasons but I can assure you I’m not giving up prepping, just this particular blog. My interest have grown and evolved as my family has grown more prepared over the last couple of years and I’m setting up a new blog about sustainable living, backyard farming and herbal remedies.

It is my current belief that people in general aren’t putting enough effort into growing their own food and creating for themselves more freedom and a sustainable life. If TEOTWAWKI really does come then having first hand experience with gardening, keeping chickens, raising goats, having bees and many more homesteader type skills are going to be worth more than any canned food or stored gold that you can get now in my opinion. Right now you need to be practicing, right now you need to be building skills, right now you need to start a garden and right now you need to try raising some livestock. If you’re not doing these things now then you are just delaying death with your stored food in a real TEOTWAWKI event. I’m not saying storing food is wrong or bad, it’s not. In most situations stored food might be all you ever need but if something big happens your stored food isn’t going to last forever. Where are you going to get seed after TEOWAWKI? How about chickens or goats? Everyone that has them is going to keep them because a small flock of chickens (3 or 4) will be worth more than or almost equal to an ounce of gold. Don’t think so? Think about this question honestly. Which would you rather have after TEOTWAWKI: 1. A small flock of chickens that lay free protein filled eggs everyday and that can be used as meat birds in a “last resort” situation or 2. An ounce of gold that you can’t eat, shoot or heal with? My answer is number 1 and so I am going to focus more time and effort in that direction for now.

So with that in mind and with the idea that I want to reach out to more of my family and friends in a less confrontational way, I say goodbye and I’ll see ya around.

The blog will be closed after February 11th 2010. Get what you want now before it’s gone.

I already think the red light cameras are unconstitutional and tyrannical (or at the very least “1984″ish) but now they are seriously considering upgrading them to check for speeding also? Granted I don’t like speeders or people to run red lights but come on when does it stop? If we allow this now it’s just a matter of time before there are cameras in every public place just waiting to mail you a ticked for picking your nose in public. OK so maybe that’s stretching it but I see this leading to some very bad places. Please let your towns know that this is not acceptable to you.

I was talking to my mailman a few days ago about different things the government is doing now and he had some interesting things to say that I agree with.

Most of our conversation revolved around paying taxes so people could live on welfare. He mentioned that Glenn Beck (or someone like him) had said that people should lose their right to vote if they are taking any kind of government aid such as welfare or subsidies. I have thought about this and I’m still on the fence but leaning toward liking it. If they lost their right to vote the politicians would lose the power to bribe them with the public’s money and that might stop the never ending cycle of “take and take” that we have going on right now.

The second point we discussed was making folks on welfare and food stamps work for that .gov money. It’s not a complete solution to the problem but unless exempt for medical reasons I think making them work to fix roads or pickup trash or any other meager .gov job that comes up would be a good idea. They wouldn’t get a free ride like they have now and the city and state governments would at least be recovering a portion of the money because they would have a pool of free labor for the most part.

I’m interested in getting some feedback on these ideas, so leave some comments and lets get some discussion going.

While I don’t think it’s a great idea to walk away from your house sometimes it’s necessary and it isn’t always the wrong thing to do. The burden of guilt and the pointing fingers shouldn’t be just placed or pointed at the home owner, banks deserve equal credit for causing the big mess in the first place and for loaning money to people who simply couldn’t afford it. Having the American dream is great as long as you can afford it and work for it. It’s not a right, it’s a privilege. It’s a privilege of those who work and toil to try and get ahead and to provide for their family. My generation seems to think they should have everything their parents have as soon as the move out or get married. Well the reality is our parents worked a long time to get that stuff that we want so bad and we will (or should) have to work for it also.
